It’s official – 2017 is the year that we finally book a one-way ticket and take a journey around the world! We start this world family travel adventure on July 1, 2017.
We are extremely excited about being able to share this news as we have been planning since last summer. Working out details, planning, debating, trying to see if we can make it work. Things are coming together and we ARE going to make this happen!
So what’s our plan?
Well, part of this journey is to not really have too much of a plan. We have some loose guidelines on areas of the world that we want to go and planning for 1 year of traveling the globe. I am really hoping we can travel for the entire year but this is a big change for our family so we are going to see how it goes and be open to whatever comes our way.
We are selling our house, most of our belongings and taking time away from our jobs to make this family travel journey happen. Homeschooling/world schooling/unschooling will now be part of our daily life. Learning to live out of a few pieces of luggage will also be an adventure on its own!
What do we want to get from this adventure?
- Spend quality time with our kids and each other as a family.
- Live with less stuff.
- Spend more time outside with nature.
- Enjoy more experiences.
- Explore new places.
- Show our kids the world.
- See and learn how others live.
- Try new foods.
We find ourselves over-scheduled, running around crazily with the regular routines and we want to take the time to be together as a family and experience what the world has to offer us.
Our kids are growing up fast and before we know it they will be living their own lives and we won’t be able to finish our family travel bucket list. We will never get this time back while our kids are young and we want to see the world through their eyes with them.
This journey will create lasting memories that we will never forget.
This wasn’t a decision that came lightly to our family, always a dream of mine… but when we set in motion actions to create the plan and started to see things come together it causes a bit of fear of the unknown because things were actually falling in place. That’s why we know it is the right decision, with anything great in life there is always that little bit of fear that pushes us out of our comfort zone. We know in our heart it is the right decision, even though our minds sometimes gets in the way.
We are taking the plunge and going to give this a try.
Over the next few months, I am going to share all the behind the scenes planning and details that we have been doing over the past 6 months to get this plan together. I have so much information that I have been researching, documenting and pulling together for this world journey and I want to share with others who are thinking or in the midst of planning a long-term travel journey with their families. All things from schooling, health insurance, banking, flights, selling our house, money, mobile life, etc.
So stay tuned for more details about our upcoming around the world journey! It’s going to be a fantastic year and we hope you come along for our #PKWorldJourney.

We are so excited for you! You are a few years ahead of us… but hopefully fewer! A big congratulations on making the decision. I feel like that’s most of the battle. Anyway, good luck and congrats!
I really like “The Passport Kids” name by the way! I see so many names come across on Instagram, but that one stuck out.

Thanks so much for taking the time and commenting! I love hearing about other families that love to travel too! It was a very big decision for our family and didn’t feel real until we actually booked our first flight for the trip. Our hearts know it’s the right decision, even though our minds are still playing tricks on us! We are fully committed now. Lots still to do before we go and lots of planning before so I hope you find our upcoming posts helpful to your family if you are thinking about it. Thanks for the compliment about our name too… greatly appreciated as it is so hard to figure out something that will work!

So thrilled to hear about your journey! Some of your words remind me so of what we felt just when we made this transition, too! We too, sold our homes and everything we owned….and moved to Ecuador with our kids (And our dogs!!). We have no regrets, and I am sure that you will not either. We are only inspired to continue this passion and to share with others that is it possible to have this adventure successfully with kids. We will be in South America this year….can help but wonder if our families will have the opportunity to cross paths!
